Aside from my life spent in academia, I have dedicated much of my time to fulfilling the mandates of our Lord as found in the Gospels. Through the years I have helped establish churches in Central and South America, rebuild communities devastated by civil wars, helped build healthcare systems where needed, including a hospital, helped establish schools and educational systems in rural areas of Central America, and helped provide needy populations with food and clothing. I lived in various countries of Latin America for twenty-five years and after returning to live in the United States, I have traveled extensively throughout the region engaging in short-term missionary work. These efforts have not been done alone, rather in all instances, local citizens have been involved in all stages of planning, development, and execution of projects.
You may wonder where the name Paralife came from. Paralife is a compound word linking together part of a Greek word, Paraclete, and the English word life. The Greek word para has several meanings, but as used in the term paraclete, it means “called along side of.” In the projects that I have been involved with, it felt appropriate to be called along side of life, hence, Paralife.
